Steven and Richard Celestin both grew up in Queens Village, attending Public School 33 and Intermediate School 109 in District 29. Although the foundation was the same for both, the paths that each took to achieve their dreams was very different. Steven pursued a career in medicine, excelling in education, and achieving numerous academic and professional honors. Today, Steven is a well-respected doctor and author. Richard pursued a career in law, navigating the education system the best way he could and utilizing the skills he possessed to excel. Today, Richard is a well-respected lawyer, entrepreneur, and author.
Having both achieved success in their respective fields, both Steven and Richard Celestin wish to share their experiences, stories, and advice to the young people and adults of District 29. The goals are to showcase that young men of color can overcome all odds and become successful professionals; to share our experience and insight to young people interested in pursuing careers in medicine, the law, authorship, or entrepreneurship; and to inspire and motivate all in attendance to pursue their passion, create and implement a success plan, and understand the tangible and intangible requirements for success.
Dr. Steven Marx Celestin graduated from New York University School of Medicine in 2001 after completing a seven-year combined BS/MD program that started at the City College of New York (a.k.a. C.U.N.Y. Medical School). He is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Steven achieved yet another milestone in his career when he published his first book, “Tell it To Me Straight, Doc”, which serves as a practical guide to help patients ask the right questions during their doctor visits, and come away with some basic advice about how to prevent and/or treat many of the most common conditions that doctors see.
Richard Anthony Celestin, Esq. is a graduate of The City University of New York School of Law, focusing his studies on criminal defense and juvenile justice. Richard created a limited liability corporation in 2009, Richard Celestin Consulting Group, LLC, for the purposes of developing and providing legal skill development and youth empowerment programs to elementary, middle, and high school students in Queens and Brooklyn. Richard also serves as a consultant for various organizations seeking to develop youth-based programs within the community, practices various areas of the law, and is an adjunct professor at LaGuardia Community College and New York City College of Technology.
